MDG Second Class Diver Schedule
To qualify for the club's advanced Second Class Diver certificate at least an additional 30 dives must be logged in addition to those submitted for the Third Class Diver and Dive Leader certificates. The dives should show experience of the following: wreck dive, night dive, simulated decompression dive, zero vis dive, drift dive, river dive. These should include a minimum of 10 sea dives, five not less than 20 metres and five not less than 30 metres.
An oral test will be completed to the satisfaction of a committee of five Second Class Certificate holders. Questions may be asked on any of the following topics:
  Decompression sickness / decompression tables
  Expansion of gases (Boyles Law), bouyancy (Archimedes law) and partial pressures (Dalton's Law)
  Decanting and compressors
  Underwater vision
  Underwater navigaion / search patterns
  Emergency / assisted ascents
  Composition of air / breathing mixtures
  Dangers of underwater obstacles
  Boat handling and assembly of boats
  Absorption of gasses
  Effects of gasses on the body, CO, CO2 and O2 poisoning
  Dive organisation (ie: deep, ice, night, sea, boat, river, etc)
  Principles of an aqualung
  Salvage
  Sea knowledge (charts, tides, etc)
  Adapting to the environment (apprenension and panic)
  Use of dry suits
  Rope signals
  Dangers of oxygen sets
  Responsibility of Expedition Leaders
  First Aid as applied to diving
  Dangers of nitrogen narcosis
  Cylinder marks and testing
 

As much as possible the questions asked will be of a practical nature. It is not recommended that this test is attempted until the member has had a fair amount of experience in open water diving and organisational experience.

All logs will be re-assessed by the Oral Test Committee.

All tests will have been carried out to the satisfaction of the Diving Officer and recorded.
