| 4 | Tread water for one minute keeping your hands above your head |
| 5 | After being made of the dangers of hyper-ventilation, attempt to swim 25 metres underwater |
| 6 | Tow an adult 25 metres, incorporating Expired Air Ressusitation in the water. Start at the deep end. |
| Group B - Primary Tests | |

| 4 | Clear flooded mask three times |
| 5 | Fit basic equipment in deep end of pool |
| 6 | Fin 50 metres with face submerged using only a snorkel: finish in the deep end and then duck dive to recover and fit mask and weight belt. Give OK hand signal. |
| Group C - Open Water Tests | |
| Wearing basic equipment plus suit, buoyancy adjuster and weights | |
| 1 | Fin 500 metres in open water, inflate buoyancy adjuster or stab jacket by mouth, fin a further 100 metres |
| 2 | Surface dive to a depth of 5 metres three times. On last duve rescue a fully kitted diver, tow to shore whilst performing Expired Air Resussitation and land body |
| 3 | Attend a minimum of three open water dives using basic equipment. Log each dive |
| Group D - Intermediate Aqualung Tests | |
| Instructor to explain embolism, burst ear and effects of pressure before commencing tests | |
| 1 | Assemble aqualung, test and fit. Demonstarte buoyancy by depth of breathing |
| 2 | Remove mask underwater, replace and clear three times. Remove mouthpiece, replace and clear three times |
| 3 | 3 Fit equipment, fin 25 metres underwater, finishing in the deep end. Remove equipment |
| 4 | Alternate between aqualung and snorkel for 50 metres (twice each length of the pool) |

| 8 | Identify six selected hand signals |
| 9 | Attend lectures on equipment, pressure effects and life saving. Each of these will be followed by an oral test |
| 10 | Spend two evenings in the compressor room, learning the safe use of the compressor and filling bottles |
| Group E - Open Water Aqualung Tests | |
| 1 | Using a Buoyancy Control Device (BCD) and full suit, demonstrate adjustment of buoyancy. Perform a controlled ascent from 3 metres, after explaining how to avoid an embolism and a burst lung. |
| 2 | Demonstrate and respond to diver-diver and diver-surface signals. |
| 3 | At a depth of 10 metres remove mask, fit and clear 3 times. |
